The first Hardee’s restaurant was opened by Wilber Hardee in Greenville, North Carolina in 1960. By the end of the 1960s, there were 200 Hardee’s locations, and the company had even gone international with one in Germany. Its famous Made from Scratch biscuits were introduced in the 1970s and are still one of the restaurants most popular menu items. By 1975, it had 1,000 restaurants open, doubling that to 2,000 in the 1980s. CKE, the current holder of Hardee’s, bought the brand from Imasco in the 1990s. Soon after, Hardee’s rebranded with a more modern look and introduced its popular line of Thickburgers.
